3 Tips For Getting Better Sleep Tonight

Did you know that the average person spends 1/3 of their life sleeping? Did you also know that 50-70 million adults have some sort of sleeping disorder? Those statistics can be pretty shocking. If you spend a good amount of your life doing a specific activity, it’s probably best to make sure that the activity that you are taking part in is done efficiently and comfortably. In this specific case, we are talking about sleep. If you or someone you know is struggling to fall asleep or to stay asleep, share these three tips with them.

1. Don’t Eat After 6PM

First, do your best to eat no later than 6PM if your schedule permits. Many adults who are suffering from lack of sleep complain of indigestion and other stomach related problems that could be avoided if food isn’t consumed right before a person lays down. When you eat, your food has to digest and move through your small and large intestines in the digestion process. This takes some time. If you immediately lay down after you eat a large meal, you can guarantee that your stomach may feel distressed and it may take longer for you to go to sleep. Also, when you eat, your blood sugar spikes naturally. When you consume extra sugar in sodas, candy, or chocolate, you are certainly setting yourself up for a long night ahead.

2. Drop The Electronics

Next, avoid electronics! If you find yourself wide awake at 2:30AM staring at your phone or computer, you probably complain of feeling overly tired or groggy the next day. When you don’t give your brain time to unplug and unwind, you’ll have a much harder time falling asleep. Instead of checking your email or Facebook, try a novel or a crossword puzzle. This may sound lame or boring in comparison to your iPhone X or your Xbox Live, but trust us, you’ll appreciate it the next day.

3. Love Your Mattress

Finally, a good mattresses is essential for good sleep. You may have had the same mattress for 10 years. Honestly, you may not even know how long you have had the mattress that you’re sleeping on right now. You may experience backaches and cramped muscles in your neck each morning. In some of the worst cases, you may have given up on sleeping in your own bed because you never could seem to get comfortable on your mattress. So you wound up on the couch or recliner. That is not how it should be. You should be excited to sleep on your mattress because you know that when you wake up, you will feel refreshed and rejuvenated, ready to tackle the day.
