3 Signs That You Need A New Mattress

We spend over a third of our lives sleeping, which is wild to think about. This means you probably spend more time on your mattress than anywhere else. So why wouldn’t you invest your money into a mattress that’s perfect for you? Maybe you’ve grown accustomed to your current mattress and don’t want to get rid of it. While that makes perfect sense, it’s important to know that your mattress could be worn out without realizing it. Here are three signs that you might need a new mattress.

Noticeable Sagging

If you wake up feeling sore or with joint pain, chances are the shape of your mattress isn’t quite up to par. Over time, a mattress can lose its shape in the middle and begin to sag. Springs can break down over time, and the polyester, foam, and felt all compress together. If this occurs, you could be sleeping in a very bad position for your back. This can cause daily back pain and even lead to serious back problems if not dealt with.

Worsening Allergies

Ever wonder why your allergies are flaring up in November or July? It could be due to your mattress! That’s right, while it seems like something out of a movie, your mattress could actually be making you sick or causing asthma attacks. The reason your older mattress is capable of causing allergies is due to little terrors called dust mites. Dust mites are microscopic insects that feed on dead cells and live all over our homes. The protein-filled feces of these mites causes allergies and asthma to flare up in some people. The best way to get rid of these buggers is, you guessed it, getting a new mattress.

Age

If your mattress is over 8 years old, it’s probably time for you to grab a new one. Consumer Reports recommends that you replace your mattress every 8 to 10 years, depending on the quality. Even if you bought that fancy brand name mattress back in 2010, chances are you’re probably due to upgrade your sleeping arrangement again.
